How the planner works

The framing maths is real optics: your chosen focal length and sensor give an exact angle of view, and the distances do the rest. A subject standing away from the canvas needs more canvas behind them; a longer lens flatters but pushes the camera back; turning the camera portrait fits a standing figure far sooner than landscape. The planner computes all of it and tells you plainly whether the group fits — and what to change if it doesn’t.

Camera height matters too: the planner keeps the camera level with the middle of your frame by default (that’s what keeps verticals straight), easing lower as you frame more of the body — override it any time.
