Hand painted backdrops are photography backgrounds painted by hand on heavyweight cotton canvas using professional-grade paints. Unlike printed vinyl or paper backdrops, each one has genuine texture, depth, and colour variation that creates a natural, three-dimensional look on camera. No two are exactly alike. They produce a quality of light and shadow that printed alternatives cannot replicate, which is why professional portrait, fashion, and fine art photographers prefer them.

Can I order a custom backdrop in any colour, size, and texture?

Yes. Every bespoke backdrop is made to order. You choose the exact colour, size, and texture. At checkout you describe your vision, and we paint it on canvas. Before shipping, we send you approval photos so you can confirm the design matches what you had in mind. Popular sizes include 100×135cm for headshots, 120×180cm for three-quarter portraits, and 180×270cm for full-length work. We can paint any size up to 2.7×4.3 metres.

How long does it take to receive a hand painted backdrop?

In-stock backdrops ship within 1–2 business days. Bespoke backdrops are hand painted to your specifications and typically take 2–3 weeks, depending on size and complexity. Each bespoke order includes approval photos sent before dispatch so you can confirm you are happy with the result. UK delivery is free on all orders.

How much do hand painted photography backdrops cost?

Prices depend on size and whether you choose in-stock or bespoke. In-stock backdrops start from around £135 for smaller sizes and go up to £800+ for large double-sided canvases. Bespoke backdrops are priced based on size and complexity. Visit our prices page for the full price list.

How do I store and care for a hand painted canvas backdrop?

Roll your backdrop around the aluminium tube provided. Always store backdrops vertically. Use a wall-mounted storage system like our D-Wall, which holds multiple backdrops in a small footprint. Never fold a canvas backdrop, as this can cause creases. If creases do occur, gently steam from the back of the canvas. With proper care, a hand-painted canvas backdrop will last for many years of professional use.

What size backdrop do I need for portrait photography?

For headshots and close-up portraits, a 100×135cm backdrop is sufficient. For three-quarter-length and seated portraits, choose 120×180cm. For full-length standing portraits, 180×270cm is the most popular size. If you shoot groups or need room for movement, consider 270×300cm or larger. What is the D-Wall backdrop storage system?

The D-Wall is a wall-mounted backdrop storage and display system designed for photography studios. It holds multiple rolled backdrops vertically against a wall, saving floor space. The starter kit includes five spaces and can be extended to hold more. All mounting hardware is included.
